Here are some of the drawings I have completed for clients. To produce portrait or house artwork I need a selection of high resolution images to choose from. Prices are negotiable depending on the size of the finished piece and the amount of time it takes me to complete. Please contact me if you have a specific requirement.
Photographs for Pet and People Portraits
To create the best artwork I need an excellent reference photo to work from. The ideas below will help you take the type of pet ( or human ! ) photograph that I need.
THE PET
I usually concentrate on drawing the face of each animal preferably with a clear view of its eyes, ears and mouth. Try to take pictures at the pet’s level of their face. Too close to the face will distort the features but too far away will not give me enough detail to work on. You may need to take a lot of photos to be able to get one that really reflects your pet’s personality. The best images will have a sharp focus with no blurry areas.
LIGHTING
Outside lighting on a bright but cloudy day is the best as strong direct sunlight causes harsh shadows ( as does using a flash ). Indoors during daylight can work too with accurate colours but the pet needs to be well lit.
HIGH RESOLUTION IMAGES
Smartphones can produce images with large file sizes. These are what I need when I zoom in to see how the eyes look or how the fur curls. Pictures that are taken from Facebook or Whatsapp messages have been compressed and a lot of the fine detail is lost making it harder to produce an accurate drawing of your pet. I’m happy to see a selection of photos in messages to pick the best one then the selected image needs to be emailed to me with at the original file size please.
BUT WHAT IF….
You are asking me to create a present for a friend or the pet is no longer with you then I need the best photo you can find please. The more photos I have to choose from the better.
